Event Details
Who lives under the rocks in streams and what can these organisms tell us about water quality? Join the Community Science Institute (CSI) for an evening at Upper Treman State Park to explore the amazing aquatic life that can be found in the creek and what it tells us about water quality and ecosystem health.
Participants will have the chance to get their feet wet and wade through the creek to search for aquatic organisms call benthic macroinvertebrates (BMI) and look at these organisms under microscopes. We’ll discuss what BMI are, how to identify them, and what these organisms can indicate about stream health. Those who are interested can also help collect an official sample of BMI that will be analyzed during Biomonitoring Open Lab Nights at CSI lab. Bring a picnic dinner along if you’d like!
